Are you an emotional eater? If you do, you might not even realize it since it’s been already a part of your lifestyle. Basically, it means that you are eating even when you’re not hungry for various other reasons, it might be for rewarding yourself after a job well done, to comfort yourself when you’re feeling bad, or you just eat when you feel bored. This habit involve changes in a person’s feeling, like stress, depression, anger, boredom, loneliness, frustration, and anxiety. Most of us will automatically reach for food when we experience one of those feeling, this “automatic response” is the one that you need to change, and for that you need to find the trigger of that habit first.

A simple way to do it is to keep a “food and feeling diary”. For some times try writing all you eat throughout the day and what do you feel at that time, it will help you to identify what trigger your emotional eating behavior, it might be because of boredom, stress at work, or you just feel to eat between completing your tasks. After it’s been identified, make a list about other activities you could do instead of eating when the situation occurs. It might be doing light exercise, talking to a friend, chatting, take a walk, have a cup of tea, listen to you favorite song, playing game, cleaning your desk, anything that can distract you from eating. Just keep aware of your situation and your own feeling, if the situation occurs, pull out your list and pick one of the alternative tasks.

There are several cases which it also occurs at early age, this most likely caused by the industrial world we live in today, the petrochemicals polluted environment we live in, and eating habits.
